How It Works
Scope is the ratio of rode length to the vertical distance from the bow roller to the seabed. Standard scope ratios: 5:1 calm, 7:1 moderate, 10:1 storm. All-chain rode provides better holding at lower ratios (3:1 to 5:1) because the chain weight keeps the pull angle low. Always calculate scope at high tide — the worst case. Your swing radius determines how close other boats can anchor. Check your anchor alarm if anchoring overnight.
